Site Remediation

Closed Industrial Site. LMG conducted the insitu chemcial oxidation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) consisting of primarily xylenes that contaminated soil and shallow groundwater at a closed industrial site. We conducted these remediation activities as part of a Ohio Voluntary Action Program (VAP) No Further Action (NFA) letter. The soil and groundwater contamination was present in a limited area approximately 100 feet by 20 feet in size. However, the highest VOC concentrations in the soil were in the groundwater smear zone approximately 10 to 12 feet below ground. In addition, VOC concentrations in the shallow groundwater exceeded 200,000 ug/L at selected monitoring wells. Based on this information and the owners requested short remediation timeframe, LMG selected insitu chemical oxidation using injected hydrogen peroxide as the remedial approach.

We conducted two rounds of hydrogen peroxide injections in the contaminated area. The injections were conducted using standard Geoprobe rods and injection equipment designed and fabricated inhouse. This resulted in an estimated site remediation savings to the client of at least $75,000 compared to bids for traditional remedial approaches and subcontracted hydrogen peroxide injection. Based on confirmatory soil sampling, the insitu chemical oxidation obtained a 92% to 99% reduction in the existing soil contamination at the site. In addition, concentrations of VOCs in the shallow groundwater were reduced to below applicable regulatory standards. After completion of the remediation activities, the former industrial Site was sucessfully sold for reuse as trucking distribution facility.

Six Manufacturing Sites Acquired by National Foundry Holding Company. Conducted comprehensive environmental assessments of six manufacturing sites acquired by national foundry holding company. One site was abandoned operation sucessfully divested to local quasi-governmental authority after generation of targeted environmental liability costs. LMG's solution resulted in remediation savings of more than $500,000 that were split 50/50 between seller and buyer.
